Guided Bike Tour in Douro Valley & Historical Villages

Daily Itinerary

Day 01

Porto | Pinhão (boat ride in Douro)
Meeting at the airport in Porto and transfer by van to Pinhão. After a light lunch, you will explore the Douro river on a small boat. Back in Pinhão, you can relax by your loging's outdoor pool.
Overnight in Pinhão.

Day 02

Cycling Tour 1: Sabrosa | Quinta Nova (35 km / 22 mi)
Transfer to Sabrosa. Short ride, with great views of the Port wine vineyards planted on terraces. You can stop at Quinta Nova, after a short climb from the Douro River, or you can also choose to continue to Pinhão (adds 15 km / 9 mi). In the afternoon, you can visit the Douro Museum in Régua. Optionally you can cycle until Régua (approx. 25 km / 15 mi from Pinhão) through mostly flat terrain along the Douro River.

Day 03

Cycling Tour 2: Pinhão - Pocinho | Marialva (52 km / 32 mi)
Before you start cycling you will take a short tour by train to the village of Pocinho, using an old railway that follows the Douro river in all its beauty. On the way to Marialva – one of Portugal's Historical Villages - you will stop to visit the Côa Museum. Your lodging has a small SPA and a beautiful outdoor swimming pool overlooking Marialva´s castle.

Day 04

Cycling Tour 3: Marialva loop (49 km / 31 mi)
Today you will cycle to the town of Trancoso, another Historical Village of Portugal. Expect some climbing, but also breathtaking views, passing by Moreira de Rei and its castle. On the way back, pass by Souto Maior or Ribeira do Freixo and by several small typical villages.

Day 05

Cycling Tour 4: Marialva | Castelo Rodrigo (55 km / 34 mi)
Today you will connect two Historical Villages – Marialva and Castelo Rodrigo. These two medieval walled villages will take you back in time, to when the brave inhabitants of these villages fought against the Spanish invaders.
Overnight in Castelo Rodrigo.

Day 06

Cycling Tour 5: Castelo Rodrigo | Barca de Alva (35 km / 22 mi)
Enjoy great views of Port Wine vineyards along the bicycle route that takes you to Barca de Alva. Here, you will have lunch on the shore of the Douro River. If you don´t feel like cycling you can stay on your lodgings or go for a donkey ride. If you ride to Barca de Alva, you then have to return to Castelo Rodrigo.
Overnight in Castelo Rodrigo.

Day 07

Castelo Rodrigo | Almeida | Porto
Transfer to Porto. On the way, you will stop to visit the Historical Village of Almeida. In Porto, you will visit a Port Wine cellar, where you can taste some of Portugal's best Port wines. In the afternoon explore this exciting and unique city. Your hotel is located near Praça da Ribeira, the heart of the historical centre of Porto.
Overnight in Porto.

Morning van transfer to Porto airport. End of services.
