Madeira, is the perfect scenery for your Self-Guided walking holidays with its infinite variety of landscapes and sub-tropical temperature.

The charming Madeira is ready to receive you, a nature lover, for a week of hiking pleasure in the west and east parts of the island. On this self-guided tour the island's coastal paths and levadas - the island's unique network of water channels, take you from the fishing village of Paul do Mar, on the west coast, to vibrant Funchal in the south.
With a multiple network of hiking paths, each day's walking and every levada is different and a paradise for the hiking enthusiasts.
Discover remote places like, Encumeada with a wonderful walk through the woods and dive into the local history and cultural experience with a visit to Mercado dos Lavradores, “farmers market”, Curral da Freiras or Pico do Arieiro, combining active journeys with a good accommodation and rest at the end of the day.
The last day enjoy your time to explore Funchal and learn about how their famous wine and sugar were exported to the Indies and the New World.

 

Daily Itinerary

Day 01
Arrival to Madeira
Arrival Transfer to Prazeres. (1 hour)
Dinner and Overnight in Prazeres.
Day 02
Stage 1: Prazeres - Paúl do Mar - Raposeira - Levada Nova - Prazeres (15km | 9.3mi | about 5 hours)
A very beautiful route on the southwest coast, starting with an exciting descent to the fishing village of Paul do Mar. With the Atlantic Ocean in your sight, you climb through Raposeira to the Levada Nova for a twisty return to your hotel in Prazeres.
Dinner and Overnight in Prazeres.
Day 03
Stage 2: Bica da Cana - Caramujo - Ginjas - Encumeada (14km | 8.6 mi | +150 / - 500 | about 5 hours)
Transfer to Bica Cana
In this walk you will have some views of the mountain scenery, with dramatic views to the central range of Pico do Arieiro, Pico das Torres, Pico Ruivo and Pico Grande. This walk is on the wettest areas of the island in some good and easy walking alongside levadas, but concentration on where you put your feet is vital in many places.  
Dinner and Overnight in Encumeada.
Day 04
Stage 3: Encumeada to Boca da Corrida - Corticeiras (15 km | 9.3mi | +550 / -200m | about 5 hours)
From Encumeada we walk through woods of Chestnut and Eucalyptus and cross the rocky. Eventually, we came to a superb viewpoint overlooking the spectacular situated village of Curral das Freiras. A luxurious vegetation area, through the beautiful valley scenario, with spectacular views overlooking the mountain and gardens ahead. 
Transfer by Local Bus to Funchal from Corticeiras.
Overnight in Funchal.
Day 05
Stage 4: Pico do Arieiro - Pico Ruivo - Curral das Freiras  (18 km | 11.2mi |+ 550/ -1200m | about 6 hours)
Transfer to Pico do Arieiro (can be done early to catch the sunrise.)
Today we will walk in the back spine of the island. This walk will lead you through Pico das Torres to Madeira’s highest mountain, Pico Ruivo (1862m). Descent to the spectacular situated village of Curral das Freiras, well-known for the Chestnut Festival.
Transfer by Local Bus to Funchal from Curral das Freiras.
Overnight in Funchal.
Day 06
Stage 5: Vereda do Larano - Porto da Cruz - Machico (10km | 6.2mi | about 4 hours)
Transfer to Porto da Cruz (Vereda do Larano) 
You´ll start your journey near the Porto da Cruz teleferic. In this hike you  enjoy incredible coastal views from the side of the cliff for many kilometers, which offers magnificent perspectives over the north coast of the island. 
After you reach the Viewpoint of Boca do Risco,  the paths go down until you reach Machico with its black sandy beach.
Transfer by Local Bus to Funchal.
Overnight in Funchal.
Day 07
Free day in Funchal
Enjoy your time to rest, explore Funchal or do some extra activities you think would add value to your Holidays.
Overnight in Funchal.

Departure
Transfer to the airport.
